Saratoga Springs Restoration
This unique home in the heart of Saratoga Springs is on the National Register of Historic Places. Once the garage of a wealthy turn-of-the-century developer, the steam-powered turntable is still visible as one enters the home. The Pennsylvania slate on the roof started to deteriorate rapidly as gypsum deposits began to effloresce out and the slates delaminated. A hardy, gray/green slate (often referred to as Vermont Sea Green) was selected to replace the existing roofing and supplied by Northeast Slate of West Pawlet, VT. Flashing details and metal work were replaced with copper. The chimney was demolished and removed down to a safe point below the roofline and rebuilt. The exterior of the home was meticulously prepped and paint by the Olde Mohawk painting crew. Raised bead architectural mortar joints on the exposed portions of the limestone foundation were restored as well. After total restoration of the exterior, this historic home is ready to weather another 100 years.
