Roman Brick & Limestone Porch Restoration

This home borders Union College in Schenectady's historic General Electric Realty Plot neighborhood (National Register of Historic Places).  Years of precipitation and mortar deterioration spelled double trouble for the brick and stone.  The stairway sidewells had been rebuilt years before by an unscrupulous contractor and needed redoing—but there weren't enough bricks.  Special brick with iron spots were custom ordered and shipped from South Carolina.  Most of the walls and the two middle piers were rebuilt after nearly total dismantling and bracing of the roof overhead.  The monolithic sandstone slabs that made up the stairway were disjointed and askew—they were removed and reset as well.
