Owens-Corning Thin Brick VeneerThe chimney in this Loudonville, NY, home was built with old, common, recycled brick in the early seventies. When the Empire State Plaza was constructed, many brick structures dating to the 18th and even 17th century were demolished to make way for the massive state government complex. Many of the brick were resold to are builders and reused for their handsome, antiqued quality. Today, homes across the Capital Region are experiencing cracking, spalling, and rapid deterioration from these 'soft' brick. The options were once limited to removing and rebuilding. Now, Owens-Coring Cultured Stone 'Select Installer Olde Mohawk has devised an appropriate system to address this issue. First, the entire chimney was parged with cement plaster with acrylic fortifier (bonding agent) and nylon reinforcing fibers. Next, 'Antique Red Thin Brick Veneer' was applied and finished appropriately. The new chimney just might look better than the original! |
