Fieldstone Walls & Elements
The builders of this new construction home near Schoharie, NY, wanted to incorporate an element of the home's environ into its design. The fieldstone utilized is indigenous to the region (primarily blue sandstone) and readily available alongside fields and roads. Stone was installed with minimal mortar to replicate a dry-laid, "farmer's wall." The stone was used in the front to simulate a structural element, seamlessly transitioning from solid mass to veneer. At the back of the home, the walls will surround a sprawling porch with future pergola, above. Inside, a stone mass, similar to a stone chimney with a built-in, stone slab bench, serves as the "heart" of the home.
