College Hill Slate Roof Restoration
This magnificent home in the historic College Hill neighborhood of Providence, RI, is a stone's throw away from Brown University. The new owners contracted Olde Mohawk to replace the copper flashing details, chimneys and slate roofing. Maintenance was also performed on the two-tiered, built-in gutter system. The majority of the Monson, Maine, slate was in excellent condition, save for many irresponsible repairs by roofers under prior owners. Matching, weathered, salvaged slate were procured through the Vintage Slate Company of Wells, VT. Hips were removed, "de-tarred," properly flashed, and reinstalled. Chimneys were capped and flashed with riveted and soldered lead-coated copper. The home has benefited greatly from the good stewardship exercised by its new owners and is ready to weather the next 120 years.
