Bluestone House Repointing (Masonry Restoration)
The General David McCarthy House was erected in Coeymans, New York, around 1749. It is one of the few remaining bluestone structures that survives in the Hudson River Valley today. Previous home-owners had the building repointed by a mason who used a hard mortar with Portland cement. Stress cracks were forming and some stone faces had been lost. Olde Mohawk’s masons carefully removed all of the hard mortar and repointed with a hydrated lime putty mortar.
