Bluestone Foundation Repointing
Formerly known as 'The Ladies Society of the Home of the Friendless,' the hydrated lime putty mortar joints on the inside basement walls were eroding rapidly. In this historic building it was critical that the new mortar used to repoint the joints was not too strong (relative to Portland Cement content), as some of the bluestone could be compromised — particularly at and above grade. The insides of the foundation walls are now restored and as tight as the exterior side on this landmark in Schenectady's historic Stockade district.
